About
When you buy this game, The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall will be added to your GOG.com account for free!

"You get the phone call at 4 a.m. By 5:30 you're in the secret installation. The commander explains tersely, "It's about the Slipgate device. Once we perfect these, we'll be able to use them to transport people and cargo from one place to another instantly. An enemy codenamed Quake, is using his own slipgates to insert death squads inside our bases to kill, steal, and kidnap. The hell of it is we have no idea where he's from. Our top scientists think Quake's not from Earth, but another dimension. They say Quake's preparing to unleash his real army, whatever that is.

"You're our best man. This is Operation Counterstrike and you're in charge. Find Quake, and stop him ... or it ... You have full authority to requisition anything you need. If the eggheads are right, all our lives are expendable."

While scouting the neighborhood, you hear shots back at the base. Damn, that Quake bastard works fast! He heard about Operation Counterstrike, and hit first. Racing back, you see the place is overrun. You are almost certainly the only survivor. Operation Counterstrike is over. Except for you. You know that the heart of the installation holds a slipgate. Since Quake's killers came through, it is still set to his dimension. You can use it to get loose in his hometown. Maybe you can get to the asshole personally. You pump a round into your shotgun, and get moving."

From the masterminds behind DOOM and Wolfenstein comes an FPS classic that will warp your world. Building on the successful elements that drew players to DOOM, Quake brings a more Gothic flavour to the FPS genre and, like its predecessor, has spawned copycats and sequels over the years. The game is also renowned for creating and popularising Machinima, as the game engine was used to create Machinima classic’s such as “The Diary of a Camper” and “The Seal of Nehahra”. This GOG release also contains the two expansions for this first installment, “Quake Mission Pack No. 1: Scourge of Armagon” and “Quake Mission Pack No. 2: Dissolution of Eternity”, bringing even more interdimensional horrors and weapons to your PC. With the main game soundtrack composed by Trent Reznor, you’re in for one heart-stopping hell of a ride.

Just play Quake with one of alternative engines. Quakespasm or DirectQ for example.

To anyone having trouble with music in Q1.

Problem is, GOG release (as well as Steam one) supports CD music ONLY.
That is why we need modern Quake engine updates, like the ones already mentioned above.

I personally used Mark V engine - it is a spiritual successor to DirectQ, which was abandoned years ago.
I found Mark V to be very friendly and easy to setup.
It is intended to work with GOG and Steam versions alike. It also supports HD texture pack, if you are into that stuff.
► Where to get:
Get the GOG/Steam installer http://quakeone.com/markv/
Or direct link to installer http://quakeone.com/markv/builds/mark_v ... r_1099.exe
► Installation
During installation DO NOT use default path offered by setup! instead, manually choose your Quake GOG installation directory (e.g. D:\Games\Quake)
When done, go to your Quake dir and make a shortcut for this file: mark_v.exe - this is what you should run to play MarkV version.
When in game, check out the options - they are easy to understand and any changes are instantly visible in the game.
I would recommend changing some settings to Quake Default - for authenticity. But that is subjective, of course.

Here are the music packs for Quake GOG release.
► Download and Installation:
Go to section Soundtrack Files and get all three packs https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =119489135
Extract the packs to anyplace you prefer.
Now COPY AND REPLACE (if asked) contents of these extracted folders to your Quake main directory (e.g. D:\games\Quake).
You should copy these 3:
id1
hipnotic
rogue

Also, here is an HD pack that is VERY easy to install, because Quake MarkV natively supports it.
► Link and Installation guide:
Direct link: http://quakeone.com/markv/extras/hd.zip
Just download this pack, create in your Quake dir a folder named "hd" (you should have, e.g. D:\Games\Quake\hd) and extract contents to this hd folder.
Correct: D:\Games\Quake\hd\textures (there should also be: progs & gfx) - that is what it looks like when installed correctly
Wrong setup: D:\Games\Quake\hd\hd\textures - this is wrong: double folders.

Cheers!

Pimping my new package:

Quake Elite

Look for for it under p2p section. Has been updated to 2.0 Final. There will be no further work on this. It is now on par with Beautiful Doom.

Trying to reassume, once you got the expansions (as 'Quake: The Offering' or as separate files from 'Quake Mission Pack 1: Scourge of Armagon' and 'Quake Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity') and the music files (see comment above viewtopic.php?p=28155#p28155 )...

Code: Select all

OFFICIAL EXPANSIONS
===================

1) Quake Mission Pack 1 (hipnotic): Scourge of Armagon

“After defeating Shub-Niggurath, you arrive back at your home base on Earth, but it's not all blue skies and butterflies. Apparently, not all QUAKE forces have been subdued. Chaos ensues as you blast your way through the QUAKE minions and toward the infested gateway. Your only choice is to find the source of evil and shut it down. Without any hesitation, and with more guts than common sense, you leap into a portal of unknown destination.”
—id Software

Quake Mission Pack 1: Scourge of Armagon is the first official mission pack for Quake, developed by Hipnotic Software and released on March 5, 1997.

2) Quake Mission Pack 2 (rogue): Dissolution of Eternity
“TWO NEW EPISODES. SIXTEEN NEW LEVELS. ONE WAY OUT.
Your journey has led you down a path of no return. The acrid smell of death fills the air. And you know the road ahead may lead to your grave. But Quake, with his insidious, apocalyptic plans, must be crushed. If you fail, evil will shroud the universe for all eternity.”
—id Software

Quake Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity is the second official mission pack released for Quake, developed by Rogue Entertainment and released on March 19, 1997.

RUN THE EXPANSIONS WITH MARK-V
==============================

1. Create the subdirs (in addition to ID1/) and copy respective pak0.pak files to hipnotic/ and rogue/
2. Copy ID/config.cfg to hipnotic/ and rogue/ to use your settings with the expansions
3. Create and copy respective music/ subdirs under hipnotic/ and rogue/
4. run "Mark_v_winquake.exe -hipnotic" or "Mark_v_winquake.exe -rogue"
